Sustainability & Innovation

CNG holds strong our promise to preserve and protect the environment for future generations, and we stay true to these values in a number of ways. Our commitment includes verified conformance with chain-of-custody standards and third-party certification audits, as well as sustainability practices within our own facilities and partnerships with mills that share our commitment to the environment.

Chain of Custody

Each of our paper companies and commercial businesses are committed to maintaining the integrity and sustainability of our forests and natural surroundings.  We can assure our customers that our wood, paper and packaging products are made with raw materials from certified forest content, certified sourcing or recycled content by upholding the chain of custody standards for FSC®, SFI® and PEFC™ papers.

Our Facilities and Operations

CNG’s commitment to the environment includes sustainability initiatives across our facilities, where we have initiated programs that reduce fossil fuel consumption, promote recycling and shrink our carbon footprint.

  • State-of-the-art lighting systems and lighting retrofits to reduce energy output.
  • E-waste program including dry toner, computers, batteries and monitors
  • Recycling program of t8 fluorescent bulbs that contain mercury
  • Increased fuel efficiency in our distribution fleet
  • Idle-free delivery zone policy

Our paper companies are also among the first distributors to partner with SmartWay Transport, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) program to help companies reduce their carbon footprint by measuring and benchmarking their freight transportation efficiency.

In conjunction with SmartWay, our trucks have been outfitted with Roadnet, a fuel saving technology that measures speed limits, rush hour and historical traffic data to provide the fastest and most efficient route for deliveries.
